Terms and Conditions

1. Membership Agreement

By registering for Yusr, the undersigned member (“Member”) agrees to adhere to the terms and conditions outlined below. This agreement constitutes a binding contract between the Member and Yusr.

2. Eligibility & The 90-Day Waiting Period

  • Approval: Membership is not active until the Member receives an official “Welcome/Approval” email from Yusr.

  • Waiting Period: There is a strict 90-day Waiting Period starting from the date of the Approval Email.

  • Exclusion: If a Member passes away within this 90-day period, they are not eligible for financial coverage or services, and Yusr is not responsible for any costs.

3. Registration and Payments

  • Registration Fee: Members pay a one-time, non-refundable registration fee upon signing up.

  • Variable Contribution Model: The Member acknowledges that Yusr does not charge a fixed monthly premium. You are charged only when a death occurs within the community.

  • Payment Authorization: Members authorize Yusr to withdraw funds from the designated payment method (Credit/Debit Card) for their share of funeral expenses.

  • The “No Pay, No Aid” Clause: Financial coverage for the Member’s own funeral is strictly contingent upon the Member being in “Good Standing” at the time of death. “Good Standing” means the Member has no outstanding dues or failed payments.

4. Failed Payments & Termination Policy

  • The Grace Period: In the event of a failed payment, Yusr (via our payment processor) will attempt to process the charge automatically up to 8 times over a period of 21 days.

  • Member Responsibility: It is the Member’s sole responsibility to ensure their payment method is valid and has sufficient funds.

  • Automatic Termination: If the payment is not successfully received by the end of the 21-day Grace Period, the Membership will be automatically terminated by the system.

  • Consequence: Once terminated, the individual is removed from the database immediately. If a death occurs while the membership is terminated, Yusr will not provide any coverage or funds, regardless of previous payment history.

5. Reinstatement Policy (Strict)

  • No Reactivation: Former members whose membership was terminated due to non-payment or voluntary opt-out cannot simply “reactivate” their old account.

  • New Application: To rejoin, you must apply as a new member. This requires paying the Registration Fee again.

  • New Waiting Period: Reinstated members must serve a new 90-day Waiting Period before being eligible for coverage again. There are no exceptions.

6. Voluntary Termination (Opt-Out)

  • Living Members: A Member may terminate their membership at any time by providing written notice to Yusr. Termination is effective only upon the issuance of a “Termination Confirmation” email.

  • No Refunds: Registration fees and past contributions are non-refundable upon termination.

7. Coverage Limits & Cemetery Policy

  • The “Hard Cap” (Maximum Coverage): Notwithstanding any other provision in this agreement, the absolute maximum financial aid provided by Yusr for any single funeral is strictly capped at $12,000.00 CAD. Under no circumstances will Yusr pay more than this amount, even if funeral costs exceed it.

  • Standard Cemetery Coverage: Yusr covers the standard rates of the cemetery in the Member’s local jurisdiction, provided these costs do not exceed the $12,000.00 Hard Cap.

  • Alternative Cemetery Policy: If a family chooses a cemetery other than the standard local option:

    • Yusr will cover the cost up to the Standard Local Rate plus a maximum of $1,000.00 CAD.

    • Limitation: This total is still subject to the Hard Cap. If the (Standard Rate + $1,000) is higher than $12,000.00, Yusr will only pay $12,000.00. The family must pay the rest.

  • Jurisdiction: Yusr does not cover the cost of transporting a body if death occurs outside our operating jurisdiction.

8. Identity Verification & Fraud

  • Adults (Primary Account Holders): Must provide a valid Driver’s License. No other form of ID is accepted for primary account holders.

  • Children: Must provide valid government-issued identification (e.g., Birth Certificate, Passport, or Health Card).

  • Usage: These documents are used to verify residency and age and will be submitted to funeral services as required by law.

  • Fraud: Yusr reserves the right to void membership immediately if false information is provided.

9. Membership Inheritance

  • Spouses Only: Membership inheritance is restricted solely to a legal Spouse.

  • Non-Transferable: Membership cannot be transferred to children, parents, siblings, or other relatives. These individuals must apply for their own separate memberships.

10. Privacy & Data Protection

  • Data Usage: Yusr collects personal information solely for the purpose of administering the funeral fund and verifying identity.

  • Protection: We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with Canadian privacy laws (PIPEDA). We do not sell your data. Payment tokens are stored securely via Stripe and are not accessible to Yusr staff.

11. Liability & Legal Disclaimer

  • Facilitator Role: Yusr acts solely as a facilitator for financial pooling.

  • NOT INSURANCE: Yusr is a mutual financial aid group and is NOT a licensed insurance provider. We do not guarantee coverage in the event of insolvency or insufficient community funds.

  • Limitation of Liability: By joining, the Member agrees to release and hold harmless Yusr from any claims, damages, or financial losses arising from service interruptions or payment processing failures.

12. Governing Law

This agreement is governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada. Disputes will be resolved via arbitration.
